Transforming Dad into a Viking: A Father's Day Tale

​When it comes to finding the perfect Father's Day gift, it's all about knowing your dad's interests. My dad had recently become obsessed with the new Vikings show, so I had a brilliant idea: why not turn him into a Viking himself?

I had dabbled in creative Photoshop editing with my daughters Valentines Day card and it was so much fun creating that I knew I had to pull out those skills again for my dad!

His enthusiasm for the show had inspired him to pose in a comically fierce Viking manner.
​ I had found this perfectly silly snapshot of my dad with his pretending to be serious while sitting on an oversized toy turtle from the Henderson State Park playground and just knew it would be perfect! ​

​With the snapshot in hand, I ventured into the digital realm, searching for the perfect Viking image on Adobe Stock. After a bit of exploration, I stumbled upon an image that perfectly captured the essence of a Viking warrior. The fierce expression, the dramatic lighting, and the painterly style of the stock photo were exactly what I needed to make this transformation a reality.

The next step was to meld these two images seamlessly. Using my magical editing skills, I carefully adjusted the lighting and style of my dad's snapshot to match the stock photo. It was a meticulous process, the hardest part was matching the neck, but the attention to detail was essential to achieve a convincing result.

​And then, the magic happened. When I combined the edited snapshot of my dad with the chosen Viking image, it was as if he had stepped right out of the television screen and into the world of the Vikings. The transformation was so convincing that it left me inspired of what can be achieved through creative photography!

On Father's Day, I presented my dad with this one-of-a-kind portrait of himself and he loved it! My mom did too, until he hung it in the living room... 
In the end, I realized just how much fun this was to create!
