SESSION Q&A
With each session you will receive, in addition to my time and talent, pre session consultation, use of props, 20+ edited proofs in a password protected online gallery for one week, and a post edited product ordering session.
Retainer of $50 is due at the time of scheduling and may be paid through an email link after we schedule a date. It is applied towards the session fee and is nonrefundable. It is however transferable to a future session should we be unable to meet. Please try to let me know one week prior to session if you need to cancel so that I may fill your spot. I do understand weather isn't always cooperative, if it rains we will do our best to reschedule, however if we are unable to find a mutual time you will receive your deposit back. Remaining payment is due at the time of the session, cash or check is preferred.
What happens after the session? We fully hand edit each image, choosing the best image from each pose/position. This can take some time depending on the session. The completed images are then insert it into a password protected online gallery where you can download your images, and share with friends and family.
I recommend scheduling an in person ordering time slot for personalized service. If this is not possible then we will set up a time for a personalized phone viewing session. Before your appointment, take the time to measure your walls and approximate what size portraits would look best. Remember, many frames will add 6” to the size of the space needed to accommodate your portrait. Also, look over our price list to familiarize yourself with our packages which you can find on the Investment Page. It can take up to 2-3 weeks to edit images in the busy months.
* Unedited images are not included or shown as they are unfinished works of art and do not represent Susi Photography, much as a manuscript before the final edited released book.
TIPS
- I have a Pinterest board set up of makeup, clothing and posing tips for how to take a great picture. You can find it HERE
- A What to Wear suggestion guide can be found on the website HERE . If your looking to purchase awesome children's clothing I suggest Old Navy, Jack and Janie and Pink 'n Blue. If you have a little girl and want beautiful clothing but don't want to purchase a $100 dress for one occasion I recommend renting. Yes it's a thing! You can check out Rainey's Closet HERE. Zulily also has wonderful deals on children's clothing and they have such beautiful dresses for pictures at a fraction of the cost (I am so addicted to Zulily!)
- To make the most of your session please take a minute to check out the Q&A page for tips on clothing, make up, posing etc.
- I highly recommend hairspray, even for the fellas, and bringing hair ties as a back up for just in case. You may also want to bring a towel and change of clothes. You'd be surprised how many children 'accidentally' get in the water ;-) Baby powder and a towel is best for getting the sand off.
- Feel free to bring your own special props, like the blanket Grandma hand-knit for the baby. If you do decide to bring a prop please let me know before hand so I can prepare for it.
The Editing Process
I’d love to tell you a little bit about the editing process. During a photoshoot, I’m making real-time adjustments to lighting to create the perfect shot. I’m also occasionally firing “burst” of shots to ensure that I get an image with no eyeblinks, and to make sure we don’t get any shots of a person starting to talk or brushing their hair out of their face.
It’s necessary to take these images, they are part of the working process of art, just as a painter sometimes tries a few colors before making the final stroke. Or how a writer might try a couple of words before landing on the right one – she doesn’t publish all three words, the first two just served to lead to the third.
All images are captured in a raw color format, so the image-making process is not finished, even when the shoot is over, as funny as that sounds. My job at that point is to discard the eyeblinks and my own testing shots to select the real pieces of art that all the other shots helped create. I take those shots and spend a great deal of time working with them by hand to tone the color, smooth any imperfections, and produce heirloom pieces of art that are up to my artistic standards – the same quality of work you saw in my portfolio.
I do not release any RAW images not included with this set of final images, because they were neither created nor intended as final products – they simply enabled me to work out issues that arose to ensure you’d get the high quality images you received.
